Chicanery in Virginia

Vaflier A phony flier being distributed in Virginia tells voters that Democrats and Republicans should vote on different days.

"Due to the larger than expected turnout in this years [sic] electorial [sic] process," the flier says, Democrats should wait to vote until Nov. 5th. Republicans should go ahead and vote on Nov. 4.

Grammar issues aside, it's actually a somewhat official-looking document. (Needless to say, everyone in Virginia -- and everywhere else -- must vote on or before Nov. 4.)

The state Board of Elections has distanced itself from the flier, and state police are looking into the issue.

About

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
