Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich is announcing today that he is running against Ted Stevens for U.S. Senate this year.
Anchorage is a good base from which to start in Alaska politics because it includes more than 40% of the state's population.
Update: Begich announced an exploratory committee, but he says he'll make a final decision later.
