The Associated Press has put out its round-up of state legislative races. This is a 30,000-foot view that touches on the expected highlights -- close chambers such as the New York Senate -- and includes the now-standard quotes from Republicans saying that even if Obama sweeps that doesn't mean down ballot races will all go the Democrats' way.
One interesting nugget is this quote, giving credence to the idea that Democrats won so much in 2006 that they may find slimmer pickings this time around:
"We're doing a little more defense than we have, and a little less offense," said Iowa Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal, chairman of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, a national group that has raised more than $6 million to spend on legislative races in the past two years.

GOVERNING Politics is the place for news and analysis on campaigns and elections. If there's a ballot measure in California, a legislative election in Alabama, a mayoral election in Anchorage or a governor's race in Rhode Island, GOVERNING Politics probably is writing about it. We love everything about state and local politics, from polls and campaign ads to policy debates and demographic trends.
