Eric Garcetti, a Democrat, is mayor of Los Angeles. Before being elected mayor in 2013, he served for 12 years on the Los Angeles City Council, where he was elected four times by his peers to serve as president.

During his tenure as mayor, Garcetti has led successful campaigns to increase the minimum wage in Los Angeles to $15 an hour by 2020 and to expand California's film and television tax credit in support of local production. He also developed the city's first comprehensive sustainability plan and signed the nation's strictest ordinance on seismic retrofitting of vulnerable buildings.

A fourth generation Angeleno, Garcetti earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Columbia University. He studied as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and the London School of Economics and taught international affairs at Occidental College and the University of Southern California. He is a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
