Chris covers health care for GOVERNING. An Ohio native with an interest in education, he set out for New Orleans with Teach For America after finishing a degree at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. He later covered government and politics at the Savannah Morning News and its South Carolina paper. He most recently covered North Carolina’s 2013 legislative session for the Associated Press.
Zach Patton -- Executive Editor. Zach has written about a range of topics, including social policy issues and urban planning and design. Originally from Tennessee, he joined GOVERNING as a staff writer in 2004. He received the 2011 Jesse H. Elizabeth Daigneau -- Managing Editor. Elizabeth joined GOVERNING in 2004 as an assistant web editor. In addition to her editing duties, she writes about energy and the environment for the magazine. Before joining GOVERNING, she was the assistant to the editor at Foreign Policy magazine. She graduated from American University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and literature. Caroline Cournoyer -- Deputy Web Editor. Caroline covered federal policy and politics for CongressNow, the former legislative wire service for Roll Call, has also written for Education Week's Teacher Magazine, and learned the ins and outs of state and local government while working as an assistant editor at WTOP Radio.
Mike Maciag -- Data Editor. Mike analyzes databases and works on computer-assisted reporting projects for the magazine. He writes on a variety of topics and manages the Governing Data portal for Governing.com. He previously worked at local newspapers in Erie, Pa., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Atlanta. Liz Farmer -- Staff Writer. As GOVERNING's finance reporter, Liz covers state and local budgets, pensions and other public-sector fiscal issues. Before joining GOVERNING, Liz wrote for the Washington Examiner, where she covered D.C. city hall politics and local government. She also covered the regional economy and development and has written extensively on the region’s rapidly changing socio-economic structure. Ryan Holeywell -- Staff Writer. Ryan covers the federal government, municipal distress and transportation issues. His favorite piece for the magazine took him to the oil fields of North Dakota to explore the effect that rapid population growth is having on the state’s infrastructure. Holeywell’s previous work has been published by the Washington Post and USA Today, and he has appeared on CNN and public radio to discuss his articles. Dylan Scott -- Staff Writer. Dylan graduated from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in 2010. While there, he won an Associated Press award for Best Investigative Reporting for a series of stories on the university’s structural deficit. He then worked at the Las Vegas Sun and Center for Education Reform before joining GOVERNING. He has reported on the Supreme Court’s consideration of the Affordable Care Act and various education reform movements in state and local government. J.B. Wogan -- Staff Writer. J.B. covers immigration, gun control, human services and more. He has written about city, county and state government for The Seattle Times and The Sammamish Review. In 2012 he helped the website PolitiFact cover the presidential election, including assessments of the Obama administration's progress on dozens of campaign promises.
